A free digital library. Every book here is in the public domain, and it stays free to read.
India Library puts great books in front of anyone with a browser. There is no subscription, no payment, and no advertising. You can read in the browser on a phone or a laptop, and your place in a book is remembered between visits.
Creating an account is optional. It exists so your library, reading progress, and bookmarks follow you from one device to another.
The collection has two parts. A small hand-picked set of classics, with files hosted here directly, and the full Project Gutenberg catalog of more than 76,000 titles in 50+ languages, which is streamed from Project Gutenberg when you open a book.
Project Gutenberg is a volunteer effort that has been digitising public domain works since 1971. We are grateful for it. If you value this library, consider supporting them at gutenberg.org.
Everything in the catalog is in the public domain, which is why it can be given away.
Analytics load only if you press Accept on the cookie banner. If you press Decline, or ignore it, no analytics are loaded at all. That choice is stored in your browser and the banner will not come back.

If you have an account, we store your name, your email address, and the books you have borrowed, so the library can be rebuilt when you sign in somewhere else. We do not sell any of it.
